Leo Vs The Oscars: If Not Now, Then When?

Dear Academy,

I have to admit, you guys have a hard job.  Me? I love movies. Comedies, actions, documentaries, horror, thrillers, musicals, EVERYTHING.  When I watch movies, I watch for the utter enjoyment.  Yes, as a movie reviewer, it's sometimes like a job but for the most part, I can just sit back and let the cinema take me away to another world.  But you guys have to watch and judge.  Judge what movies stood out. Judge what directors created a masterpiece. And judge who's performance is better than the rest.

And, as the 2014 Oscars comes to a close, we've witnessed an all too familiar scene: Leonardo DiCaprio, once again, Oscar-less. But why?? Do you all realize all of the awesomeness that Leo has brought to the big screen over the course of his career?? No? Well then. Blue told me to remind y'all so lets take a look at this quick overview:

  • What's Eating Gilbert Grape  Leo's portrayal of the mentally handicapped Arnie Grape was so convincing that I KNOW people were searching on whether he was actually handicapped or just that great of an actor.
  • Romeo + Juliet  Leo had an entire generation of teenagers CLAMORING to read Shakespeare. FREAKIN. SHAKESPEARE.
  • Titanic  You know good and hell well that you cussed Rose out for not moving over and letting Jack get up on that wooden plank with her!
  • The Man In The Iron Mask  You want gentle, emotional Leo? Or giant a-hole, abusive and narcissistic Leo?  Guess what?? You get em both! Why? Because he's Leonardo DiFreakinCaprio
  • Inception  While you might have needed a study guide, Google and some kind of advanced degree to actually understand this movie, you didn't need any more than common sense to see Leo's talent just shine through.
  • Django Unchained  Because LEO.
Leo's played by the rules.  He's played everything from the mentally handicapped to the tragically lovestuck to the psychotic slavemaster to troubled genius and everything in between.  What more do you want from him??  Let's just end this, ok?  Give Leo his Oscar.  It's long overdue.  Do it for America.

Love, Toni

Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.
